  • Annual Giving

Annual gifts to FIU allow you to support areas and programs that are most meaningful to you. Whether it’s a specific college, academic program, student activity, athletic team or scholarship, you can designate your gift to any area you choose. Gifts may also be unrestricted, allowing the university the flexibility to address FIU’s greatest needs.

No matter the size of your gift, all philanthropic support has a significant impact on students at FIU. In FY 2016-2017, gifts of $100 or less added up to more than $300,000 in support for the university. Gifts of every size make a substantial difference in funding scholarships, academic programs, technology upgrades, facility enhancements and more. Each year, every gift, regardless of the amount, improves the FIU experience for our students.

  • Estate & Planned Giving
Estate and planned gifts provide a way for donors to expand their impact at FIU. The most straightforward way to give is a bequest ― a gift made with a designation in a will. Some donors choose to make outright gifts of assets such as appreciated securities, real estate, or artwork ― these may be a good approach if avoiding capital gains taxes is a goal. Other types of planned gifts provide a current financial benefit and tax deductions for a donor. Several types of trusts can be set up to shield a donor’s estate from taxes and create a legacy gift for FIU. Some planned gifts are payable upon the donor’s death, such as a life insurance policy that names FIU as a beneficiary. Donors who have planned a gift for FIU are encouraged to let us know so that we can say thank you and make sure we understand how they would like their gift to be used. Donors who share their gift information with us become a member of The Legacy for Learning Society, FIU’s recognition society for all planned giving donors. Learn more at https://fiu.giftplans.org/.
  • Corporate & Foundation Relations

The Corporate and Foundation Relations programs play a key role in supporting the institution’s mission to advance student success and research excellence through meaningful partnerships. Working closely with all schools, colleges and units, these programs help initiate and cultivate relationships between the university, corporations and foundations to drive the impact FIU has on the larger community. Donor interest is matched with university needs and priorities to encourage philanthropic support.

  • IGNITE: Faculty & Staff Giving

Ignite is the FIU faculty and staff giving campaign. Since 2012, employees have pledged more than $8.6 million in support of 200+ projects at the university.
